Lovely. Love the humble last line. One of the ways I see this changing is top rated celebrities/cricketer, you know the gods in India normalizing and telling people it’s wrong. Unfortunately in movies, there’s a stereotype that the protagonists are always bright and white(even males) while those with darker tones are usually the goons/crooks (sidenote — scars don’t auto-imply you’re a goon), and these sub-consciously keep reinforcing those beliefs. It’s an impossible thing to overcome overnight, hopefully with time. It’s a shame what your cousin had to go through, but looks like even she’s not aloof from the stigma. Well hopefully with time, with stories like yours, we’ll begin to see people as humans and not color palettes.
